Variable Message Signs (VMS Boards) are large boards that are used to display messages and information to onlookers. The messages can vary from text, symbols, graphics, and be display in different colours. The boards are using LED technology, so the messages are not fixed and can changed updated at any time. Meaning that the boards convey messages in real time, whether for traffic control or promotional purposes.

At LDC Equipment, have VMS boards for hire, and VMS boards for sale.

Different Types of VMS Boards.

  1. Amber VMS Boards:

The amber signs are fully integrated with superior control functions and charging systems, enabling these to operate remotely. Compared to other VMS boards, our innovative design consists of point-to-point wiring extending from the core to each component. This superior design avoids the potential risk of faults through complex wiring. We call it the “star pattern” and it reduces the chance of breakdowns due to the board having fewer failure points.

Simple and easy to operate, the amber VMS boards, programmed using a smart phone, laptop, or desktop PC. Therefore, you can easily manage single or multiple signs using our advanced Cloud Director Software by remote access. Unlike other services, there are no ongoing charges and easily set up through your own server.

  1. 5-Colour VMS Boards:

The Colour VMS Boards uses a single VMS Core board that integrates all control functions, communications and charging systems onto a single board. This revolutionary design eliminates the complex wiring and fault diagnosis associated with traditional variable message signs. All wiring is now point to point from the VMS core to all other components by creating a star pattern. The result is a reduction in possible failure points and increased reliability.

Different applications for the colour boards are for retail and commercial advertising, traffic control and construction, and events.

  1. Truck Mounted VMS Signs

Our high visibility Queensland truck mounted VMS signs are specifically designed for installation on attenuator trucks for use at road work sites across Australia.

The variable message signs (VMS) are simple and easy to use with a full colour touchscreen controller. Just select the message you want to display from the library of RMS approved images and press run, it’s that easy! You can even program the sign and save custom text messages for display (amber only). A full mimic of the sign is displayed on the controller for the operator’s reference, to avoid posting the wrong message.

  1. Vehicle Roof Mounted and Vehicle Tray Mounted VMS

LDC Equipment specialises in designing and manufacturing vehicle mounted VMS boards in any size or colour. The TM405C feature an intuitive full colour touchscreen dash controller to raise and lower the sign automatically via an electric actuator. The sign has a pixel pitch of 16mm and can display up to 4 lines of text.

Features of the VMS Boards

  1. LED Displays: The LED technology that are used allow the boards to be bright and seen in different weather conditions. Different messages can be displayed such as text, logos, mottos, symbols, images, and more.
  2. Real-Time: Display custom made messages for the specific operation in real-time. Such as for road works, safety message, or to promote a business.
  3. Solar Power: All units are operated using solar panels. Using energy from the sun to charge up the units for night-work. Meaning no wiring or plugins are need when setting up the boards.

Benefits of the VMS Boards

  1. Safety: Being able to provide real-time information to drivers can increase their awareness of the road conditions.
  2. Traffic Control: Can help in maintaining a smooth traffic flow during operations or a change on the road pattern.
  3. Laws: Meeting safety standards and practices
  4. Communication: Providing safety messages, especially during peak times in a work zone. Informing drivers how to navigate through the zone safely.
  5. Cost-Effective: After the upfront costs, operational costs are lower than traditional units.
  6. Additional Work: Ongoing maintenance work on the board is often very simple and limited.
  7. VMS board sizes: Have different size boards for offer.

LDC Equipment’s main office is in Arundel, Queensland. Approximately, only 40 minutes away from the coastal suburb of Coolangatta. If you are in the need of a Coolangatta board hire, look no further than LDC.

For instance, in the month of August on Coolangatta Road, there were night works that were going on for a few nights. Located in a busy area, directly next to the Gold Coast Highway and surrounded by several attractions that increase traffic such as:

  • Gold Coast Airport
  • John Flynn Hospital
  • Tugun Rugby League Club
  • Parks
  • Bowls Club
  • Convenience Complex
  • And Residential Streets.

The nightwork required road maintenance work from the Thursday the 3rd to Monday the 7th. So, beginning in July, two Amber VMS boards were hired to be set up at the intersection joining Coolangatta Rd and Boyd St. With three messages displayed

  • Asphalt Night Works
  • Expect Delays
  • 3-7 Aug 7pm – 5am.

By having these boards set up those locations in July. It has enough time to inform the public that there were going to be maintenance work at night in this area. The boards had the ability to not only inform about the operation, but give the dates and times, instead of a vague message. Display a ‘expect delays’ message also indicates to the public that there could be congestion in the area at that time, so taking a different route if possible is encouraged.
