Earth Day is an annual event taking place on the 22nd of April. The event is to raise awareness and support for the protection of the environment.
It stemmed from a few publications on environmental concerns and a retaliation historic oil spill in Santa Barbara in the 1960s.
In 1970, the first annual Earth Day took place. Bringing to light environmental issues in mainstream media and society’s perception in how to look after it.
For the next 20 years, Earth Day was a success, encouraging millions of people and led to changing laws and polices on clean air and water.
In 1990, Earth Day went global, reaching to people from over 140 countries, including Australia, and placing environmental concerns on a global platform.
In the 2000s, there was a shift in focus on issues surrounding Global Warming. With awareness about the effects of air pollution, and groups pushing for clean and renewable energy.
Today, Earth Day is still celebrated with over 1 billion people participating in events in over 190 countries. Every year has a different theme.
In 2023, the theme is ‘Invest in Our Planet’.
LDC Equipment is committed to investing in our planet and celebrate Earth Day this April.
Our superior quality traffic control equipment, signs, and lighting towers are all solar powered. Making all of our equipment environmentally friendly, because they are powered by natural energy and no chemical emissions are polluted.
Whereas other manufacturers that do not use solar power, for instance, some use ‘diesel’. Using diesel or similar can produce and discharge CO2 gas, which is dangerous for the environment and people.
